Contested v. Uncontested Divorce

A contested divorce means that the parties disagree on one or more issues required to be resolved before a divorce can be finalized. Such issues may include the division of property, support, custody, or parenting time. In this instance, the parties must seek court intervention to resolve the dispute(s).

An uncontested divorce, on the other hand, means that the parties are in agreement on all issues and that the divorce can be finalized without the need for court intervention. An uncontested divorce is typically resolved quicker and is more cost effective in comparison to a contested divorce.
