Is Michigan a no-fault divorce state?

Updated: May 15, 2024

Michigan is a no-fault divorce state. No-fault means that a party does not need to prove fault in order for a divorce to be granted. Some examples of fault may include infidelity, neglect, or abuse.

While proving fault is not required to obtain a divorce, fault may be considered in determining the division of property, support, custody, and parenting time.
